The Autobots are the 'good guys' from G1 Transformers. They originally come from Cybertron, the same planet as the Decepticons.
Leadership
The Autobots were originally lead by Optimus Prime. After his death, Ultra Magnus became the Autobot leader temporarily until Hot Rod obtained the Autobot Matrix of Leadership and became Rodimus Prime.
When Optimus Prime was resurrected, he became leader again and Rodimus Prime became Hot Rod.

Flying Autobots
In the original three-part miniseries More than Meets the Eye, Autobots were capable of flying in their robot mode. In a continuity error, all Autobots seemed to loose this ability starting with Season 1.
