Soundwave is a Decepticon who can transform into a stereo cassette recorder / player. He is similar to Blaster, an Autobot cassette player who is a later addition to the series and has several transforming cassette tapes as well. Soundwave first appeared in the episode More Than Meets The Eye - Part 1. Soundwave is the loyal soldier of Megatron and in that respect is the polar opposite of Starscream.
Soundwave has a bizarre personality. He often uses precise military language. For example, after checking to make sure that he was not discovered while Laserbeak was spying on the Autobots, he transmitted this message to Laserbeak : "Disclosure averted. Continue operation."
Soundwave's Special Abilities
Soundwave is the only Decepticon that can create energon cubes, which he produces through his "cassette door." Soundwave's cassette door can also be used to project blueprints and other images.
He can replace one of his hands with a detector of sorts.

When releasing his cassette tape minions, everything is a military operation to him. In fact, he gives a military operation name to every task he has his cassette tapes perform. Here is a list of "operation" names and what Soundwave was really instructing his cassette tapes to do.

Soundwave and Ravage sneak into the Ark and download information about the Earth's energy resources from Teletraan-I. They are discovered by Spike and even through Soundwave manages to get away, Ravage is captured.
