As with almost all Transformers universes, the Transformer factions are split up into Autobots and Decepticons, with Humans stuck in the middle.
The Transformers in the Transformers movie have been changed quite a bit. The first, and most obvious change is that they have been made much more alien-looking and much, much more robotic. The second is that the producers of the film have made a deal with GM to make each Autobot character an advertisement for GM.
Transformers have a new power — to change their alternate mode by themselves. For example, Bumblebee changes his alternate mode from an old styled Camero to the new model.
