The new Transfomers movie is an entirely new storyline not based on the original Generation 1 storyline. Normally, we'd just include a bit about the new Transformers movie in the appropriate sections. Because sequels are promised, we've added this new section to detail the Transformers Movie universe as opposed to the storyline of other Transformers universes.
Plot
The plot of the Transformers movie revolves around Sam Witwicky and his car / transformer Bumblebee, who has been assigned his body guard. The Decepticons discover that Sam has the glasses of his great-grandfather, Archibald Witwicky. These glasses have the location of the AllSpark imprinted on them.
GM Tie-In
The GM Tie-In has had a large effect on the vehicle forms of the Autobots. While it would have been easy to respect, more or less, the original car forms of the Autobots in the film, they have all been chosen from GM's line of cars. The biggest change is Bumblebee, who is now a Chevy Camaro.
Character Look
There has also been a major change to the robot mode of the characters. Both the Autobots and Decepticons look much more robotic and alien. There is much debate as to whether this is a good thing. We at Transformers Wiki Complete believe that it is a good look for the movie universe.
